Drug Uses
Epilepsy associated with seizures is treated using Gabapentin and it may also be used for treating nerve pain associated with herpes zoster (shingles) infection (postherpetic neuralgia) if determined by doctor. This can be used for other purposes if prescribed by your doctor.
How Taken
Consult your doctor before consuming Gabapentin and follow the instruction as advised by the doctor. This can be taken either with or without a meal. Make sure that you do not antacid containing aluminum or magnesium components within 2 hours before you take Gabapentin. Never stop taking Gabapentin without consulting your doctor or just at once, this may increase risk of side effects (eg, seizures). In case you want to stop taking Gabapentin or adding a new medicine, consult your doctor and he will gradually lower down your dose.
Missed Dose
If somehow you missed the dose, then immediately take that dose after you remember. However if you get to the nearby time for next dose, skip taking the Missed Dose and continue with your dose taking schedule. Do remember that you never exceed the intake of dose to compensate you missed dosage previously.
Storage
The storage criteria is that do keep the product away from heat, moisture and light and make sure that the temperature of the place where you will keep the product must be between 59 – 86 °F that means15 – 30 °C is permitted. Make sure that children cannot get in touch with it.

Gabapentin may cause some side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, lightheadedness, or fainting during the period of course. These side effects may even get worse if Gabapentin is consumed with alcohol or certain medicines. Always use Gabapentin with caution and follow the instructions of the doctor. Gabapentin is found in breast milk. You should discuss the merits and demerits of consuming Gabapentin when you are pregnant and all its possible effects to your baby. Some medicines may have interaction with Gabapentin. Thus let your doctor know of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbals, or diet supplements that you are taking. Gabapentin may affect your blood sugar level. If you are a diabetic patient, check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dosage of your diabetes medicine. Make sure that you keep all doctor and lab appointments in line and go for continuous check ups. Elder patients may be more sensitive to the effects of Gabapentin and might require a lower dosage than usual. Gabapentin may cause emotional or behavioral side effects in children 3 -12 years of age. If the following side effects occur, do let your doctor know immediately like- emotional “mood swings", hostile or aggressive behavior, problems concentrating, decreased performance, restlessness or hyperactivity. Make sure that children below the age group of 3 years do not consume Gabapentin.
